What is it?

#MayMeetTheCoach is a daily photo challenge that takes place in May on Instagram. It starts on May 1st and lasts the whole month.

It allows coaches to tell their story, share their insights and lifestyle with their followers and community, and make new connections. It also enables us to build a supportive coaching community online.

It's inspired by the #MarchMeetTheMaker challenge initiated by Joanne Hawker in 2016. I love following makers and creators, and I found it interesting to view a different side of their business. So in 2019, I decided to launch my own challenge to support my community.

Who can take part?

If you are a coach, therapist or counsellor, whether you're still training or already qualified, you are welcome to join the challenge.

You can start at any time. If you've missed the beginning, you can either catch up on the days you've missed or just start whenever you want.

How does it work?

There's a prompt for every day of the month. They’re usually quite self-explanatory, but feel free to interpret them as you wish!

Each day, you post a picture or video in relation to the prompt. If you’re not too sure how to do this, have a look at the previous years challenges to see what people posted.

Remember to use the hashtags #MayMeetTheCoach and #MayMeetTheCoach2021 for each post (and any other # you want).

You can also follow the hashtag to see what everyone else is posting, comment on others’ post, learn new things and meet new people.

Feel free to share the challenge within your professional groups - the more the merrier!

Tips and tools to help you

Posting every day can be a bit of a challenge. Plan your posts ahead by writing your ideas and captions somewhere. I personally use Trello (both on my laptop and phone) to plan my content. Here’s a screenshot of my Instagram board on Trello to show you how it works.

You can download the prompts here.

Follow the hashtag to be inspired by what others are posting.

If you can’t think of a picture to take yourself, head over to Unsplash, where you’ll find beautiful pictures to download and use for free.

A couple of rules (and that's it)

  • Please post in English only so that everyone can understand.

  • Only use the # as part of the challenge so that it remains relevant.

Thank you for taking part and have fun!
